Uprising muse lyics8/29/2023 Therefore the song ends up becoming a pre-battle speech to “pump up” the audience for war. In Uprising’s music video we see muse on the back of a pickup truck performing the song, however, it appears as though they are rallying a rebellion for war against the bears. The lyrics to Uprising help to enforce this idea as they have the same meaning, “we will be victorious.” Therefore this supports Goodwin’s theory as again the lyrics of Uprising are illustrated by the visuals of its video. This recklessness displayed by the bears ultimately leads to their own destruction, so the dolls end up being victorious in the end. Then in an instance, the foot of a teddy bear comes crashing down filling half the screen making us small and the bears, giants. This conveys the bears as tyrants who are too big to be stopped, which contrasts greatly with the lyrics at this moment “they will not force us.” This opposing between visuals and lyrics happens throughout the second chorus because it helps illustrate the fight between Muse and the bears, supporting Goodwin’s theory as the visuals and lyrics have a connection. This is done with a long shot of a street at eye level this brings us down to the ground level. The camera is used in this instance to convey the bears’ power by showing their immense size. In the second verse, the bears begin to realise the rebellion and fight back, stomping on the much smaller dolls and destroying the city. As the lyrics have a connection to the visuals it reinforces Goodwin’s theory, even though the connection is more through their meaning than their story. As Uprising’s lyrics are about revolting against the control of the government, the music video complements them well by having the same meaning behind it. The burning of this fuse is a metaphor for the inevitable revolution (explosion) that will come from all the manipulating done by the government and media (Teddy Bears). The video is set in a dark world populated by dolls (public). As the fuse burns, we see more of this darkened world and the control the teddy bears (government) have over it. Mise-en-scene is used in Uprising to help illustrate the meanings behind the lyrics. This rebellious attitude is conventional of genres like alternative rock and the music video for Uprising is a great example of this. The music video for uprising shows a dark world with little joy but leads to an uprising after a fuse finally goes off. It talks of a rebel uprising against the lies and propaganda that deceive the public, making the government’s evil seem good. Uprising’s lyrics are about standing up against the big man, which is, in this case, the government.
